Kockens Rosépeppar Burk - Pink Pepper 20g
Despite its name, pink pepper is not closely related to true pepper (black, white, and green pepper). Instead, it belongs to the same family as mango, pistachio, and cashew nuts.
Pink pepper comes from two closely related trees: the Brazilian pepper tree (Schinus terebinthifolius) and the Peruvian pepper tree (Schinus molle). These trees are evergreen, with white flowers. Initially green, the peppercorns turn pink, red, or purple as they ripen.
The dried berries have a sweet, aromatic flavor, somewhat reminiscent of juniper berries.
Did you know that in Europe, pink pepper was once called “false pepper” as it was used as a substitute for the expensive real pepper?
Pink pepper is versatile and pairs well with meat, fish, poultry, and even certain desserts.
